Laurie- I just typed a novel answering your questions and more and the blog ate it.
So, the basics:
The machine cuts it out. I weed out the negative space until I have just left what will go on the door, wall, craft, etc.
It's called a Silhouette SD and costs a little over $200. Shop around for the best price. Danny determined the Silhouette SD was more flexible of a product than the Cricut-- and that's why he picked it out for me.
You would LOVE this hobby! (and I'm sure you would be excellent at it)
That's too fun! You should sent those as birthday/Christmas gifts to your family members...I think they would love to have words on their walls also. JUST SAYING!

Do you cut the letters yourself? Was the equipment expensive? I'd love to do a little of this. I especially love the picture of you in the mirror. :)
