Twins have arrived!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 10:05 p.m. 6 lbs. 15 oz. of baby on left was born.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 10:06 p.m. 6 lbs. 1 oz. of baby on right was born.

Both boys are amazingly healthy. Being born at 35 weeks gestation they were automatically sent to the NICU for observation. Neither one needs oxygen. All blood tests were normal. Right now they're basically being observed for eating to see if they can eat and gain weight. Baby on left is a champion eater and decided to remove his feeding tube to prove it.

The pathology report on the placenta determined it was two separate placentas fused together. Everyday Danny and I change our mind about if they're fraternal or identical. I suspect if their mild jaundice levels returned to normal, if baby on the right's skin was less red, and if they weighed the same, they'd look identical. But that's just my opinion as of this afternoon. Earlier today I thought baby on left looked like Danny and Pookie's birth pictures. And I thought baby on right looked like Bun and maybe a masculine form of Gabbers' birth pictures.

So if they were for sure sharing the same placenta, they'd be identical. There's still a possibility that they are identical if the egg split early enough for them to create their own placentas.

As for me and my adventures in laboring and recovering, that is another post. But as crappy as I feel, I couldn't have been more blessed than I am with these super snuggly healthy boys.

Congrats! Well done, Mama!

My twins have that whole are they/aren't they identical thing going on, too. We decided we knew they were related and we were okay with that. :-)

Those are some healthy looking 35 weekers! Good for you!

HURRAY! Congratulations, friend. 12+ pounds of baby is pretty awesome, especially for 35 weeks. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Welcome to your lives, guys!

I'm so happy for you! Could have prayed for healthier twins. My first child, single birth, weighed less than your little guy who weighs 6.15! No wonder you were miserable! I'm sure you feel like a twig now. :)

Can't wait for updates..... months from now when you have figured how to wrangle twin babies and 6 kids. hehe

Congratulations! I'm so glad that they arrived healthy and at great weights. Mine arrived the same time, but lots smaller and they needed the NICU, so congrats on incubating big babies! :) They are adorable, best of luck to you and your family!

Everybody-
Thank you! They really are a good size. And I think that has a lot to do with how healthy they are.

Melony- lol to your comment. I love to look at your blog for advice on what I have to expect. And your girls are darling by the way. :)

Jenny- You are one of the lucky few that actually will get to meet them relatively soon. :) And I promise to return your bins before they turn one. lol

Lora Lynn- It was your words of encouragement echoing in my head about being a super incubator that got me to that 35 week point. Thanks!

Gurr- Thanks for the speedy recovery wishes. I am grateful that at least the boys are doing great. :)

Marcy- Ahh rest. I had a really good rest last night. Possibly the last good night for a couple decades. lol

JoAnn- Thanks. :) Wish you could see them in person.

Susan- I couldn't think of a better example of someone to turn to for good raising advice. Your kids have and are turning out great!

Jane- Thanks. I just can't help but beam when I think about how big they are. Makes me feel like I had a part in that. hehe

Emily- I realize this picture does not really show their resemblence. lol

A-
Wish I looked like a twig. Unfortunately, I probably am bigger now then Tuesday when I delivered. More on that in a future post.

Bebe- The thought of them driving just now gave me heart palpitations. haha

I can't wait to show more photos and fill you all in on the birth story. Maybe tomorrow. lol

Congrats Nikki!!! You carried them so long and should be proud of yourself in doing so. They sound really healthy and so beautiful. I can never tell twins apart, so I agree w/the above statement. Agree that they're related, then you're off to raising your beautiful children now of SIX!!!
