Cutting costs with paper towels

Is it just me or does my left pinky look freaky weird in this picture?

You can still save money when you're using paper towels.  (Albeit, you can save a lot by switching to cloth napkins and cleaning cloths).  Sometimes though, like when it's OAMC day and you're preparing RAW CHICKEN, paper towels come in handy.

Make your own select-a-size paper towels.  So easy.  Just cut your paper towels in half with a non-serrated knife.  I mean it.  Use a NON-serrated knife.  Or you'll have a fluffy mess on your hands.

Come back Friday for my Frugal Friday post on how to cut your baby wipe cost in half by making your own wipes with paper towels.  the GOOD paper towels.  Bounty.  Does it really need saying?

Who would have known!? That's a neat idea. Although, I couldn't do that and still use my under the cabinet paper towel holder. hmm

very cool idea! I'm going to give it a try.

And might I add - what a lovely tablerunner you've decorated with! You are most definitely a lady of style and refinement. :)

I've wondered how to do that... I thought it was harder I guess! My friend made her own disinfecting wipes like that by cutting the paper towel and putting a 1/4 cup of Clorox clean up in there with them.

Ooohh..how clever! Do you just keep both halves on the same paper towel holder? Thanks for sharing!

Well that is a dandy little tip. I cut costs so many ways, but I refuse to buy any other paper towel than Viva. My favorite! I should get to cutting. :-) I do cut my baby wipes in half, though. Always have.

I have my hubby cut them outside with some saw - just a quick pull down and boom - done! We do homemade baby wipes too - and our own "kitchen wipes" - sooo much savings to be had! :)

I used to make my own baby wipes like this, but I love the idea when I'm taking the skin off my chicken using a smaller roll!!! Thanks so much for linking up!!!

I'm a Bounty-a-holic! But...I've found that they are too much to use up. Meaning 1 papertowel is a waste unless I cut it or tear it.
We just rip em in half and each take a side. Then we use the whole papertowel up.
Does that make sense?

I never thought to cut them. We just rip em!

Brilliant! We use the select-a-size ones (Bounty, I think) but I love this idea more!

Ally- I just keep one half on the paper towel holder. I've found we use less this way. I used to keep both halves on the paper towel holder, but not anymore.

Kim- I cut baby wipes in half for many years-- especially when the babies are little. But now that I make homemade ones, they are so cheap and take less time than cutting them.

Jessica- That is handy for your hubby to saw them in half! Do you mind sharing your kichen wipe recipe?

Wander- Good idea as well!

schelpme- The select-a-size Bounty cost more than the regular ones at our commissary. I also found when I use the store-made select-a-size, we use more as a family.

This is such a great tip, and I just did it for the first time last week! Making my own baby wipes, as a matter of fact--lol. I prefer Viva because I think they're softer on the baby's bum. A cut up roll like this is the same size paper as the select-a-size Bounty, but much cheaper!

Unfortunately, i did use a serrated bread knife my first time out. You're right--big mistake--lol.

are you really cutting that roll with a knife? LMFAO that's hilarious but i agree with your post :D

Your pinky doesn't look weird and my husband caught me doing this last night and asked "What are you doing?". I said saving the part of the paper towel that we don't use. He just walked away shaking his head, I think I should have explained a little more. : )

What a neat idea!

And your pinky finger does look a little stubby... :) But I love your ring. So pretty.

Great tip! I would love to go to cloth napkins and such, but until I make the plunge, this will work!

Have a great day!
