Oh the smell of spring!

Something unpleasant happens here every spring. The spring thaw. Between about 45 and 55 degrees fahrenheit it smells really REALLY bad in our part of the neighborhood. Like raw sewage. So bad that I dry-heave half the time I'm outside. The kids have been begging to go out and play. Once it hits 60 degrees they start cheering because they know that I'll venture out then. So, we're going out to play today!

What? Laura Ingalls Wilder never mentioned that in The Long Winter (my closest brush with a Spring thaw). I guess you can't believe everything you read.

It might smell bad here in Oklahoma, but the wind blows away the smell before it reaches your nose. also, the 45-55 degrees time was back in January.

it isn't like raw sewage, nikki. it IS raw sewage. you know that little "stream" through base? it's a sewage ditch:-) nice, huh?

Invest in some good nose plugs....hee hee. That's so funny, I assume that the snow is melting and you are discovering poo that has been covered for the winter months...hee hee. have a fun spring day.

At least the smell doesn't permeate into your house!! I walk around with a bottly of Fabreeze and I keep asking everyone who cut the cheese, because I forget about the whole stupid sewage thaw!! They need to do something about it!! Hope the dry heaves stop for you!!

Finally, spring hits for you and here it keeps snowing! :) I have no idea, yet, what I'm doing this summer after I get back from London. I would love to visit you guys, but I also need to get started on my senior thesis at some point ... Anyhow, enjoy the good weather!

Love,
Liz
