I have been sufficiently humbled.

Okay, Amy. Here is a seriously bad mommy moment.

The kids were looking at their Valentines today from there Grandma and cousins. Pookie was looking at his Precious Moments one from his cousin.

Gabbers was saying, “Let me see it! I want to look at it!”
He said, “No! It’s mine!”
Then he slapped her.
I called Gabbers over to me. And she blubbered, “I just wanted to look at it and he slapped me.”
I called Pookie over and took the Valentine out of his hand and then he ran off angrily.
I said, “Come here please.”
He yelled, “Never!”

And here it is, the moment. I ripped up his card into little pieces. I tore it into shreds. And with that I melted my Pookie into a sad little betrayed puddle of broken-heartedneses.

I called him over to me and tried to console his sobbing self. He cried and cried and cried. It reminded me of the giant snowball back when I was seven or eight. (another story--another time)

Then we had this conversation:

Me: Are Valentines more important than people?

Pookie: No.

Me: Pookie, I’m so very sorry. I shouldn’t have torn up your Valentine.

Pookie: Mommy, but I love you. I love you for eternity.

Me: I love you too for eternity.

Pookie: Even if you don’t go to heaven?

Me: Why wouldn’t I go to heaven?

Pookie: Because you do bad things to me sometimes.

Awww - Nikki! What an emotional swing this post was. One moment I can totally relate to that boil inside of me when my child says, "Never!" (Oh my goodness... we are in that phase full force and it drives me nuts) Then the warming inside when he says he'll love you for eternity. Only to end in a bittersweet laughter of him saying you won't be in heaven. lol Sorry, I know it SOUNDS awful, but when we know their concept of these things aren't fully formed yet, it's hard not to chuckle when they say these things. Even though the reality that they haven't forgotten our mistakes can be a sting.

ha ha, that is so funny! I think that means that I probably won't go to heaven either since I totally laughed.

I was seriously crying I was laughing so hard. Its so sad and so not funny for little Pookie, but I can so relate to being in the crazed mommy position. Sorry to hear you won't be going to heaven ;) I'll be right there with you.

Oh so sad!! I totally cried and laughed at the same time, I think I may have done many similar things that may not get me into heaven...goodness...the things we learn from little children. Give that pookie big hugs from us out in Hawaii.

I admire you for admitting your "bad mommy" moments in addition to the good ones.

Been there/done that. *hearts* for both of you. I tagged you for a Crazy 8s meme, if you're interested.

I LOVE your new look!! That pYzam border bothers me, too, but not enough to pay someone. Plus, the sidebar took me For. Ev. Er. to reinstall. I think I'm through messing around with it. For a while.
