Thursdays Thoughts of Food

**Happy 11th Anniversary to my wonderful sister Leslie and her hubby Troy!**

I LOVE Green Bean Casserole. I made it last night for dinner and for dinner two days before that. I'm a little obsessive about my cravings. I used the traditional recipe on the French's fried onions can (but with canned beans instead of frozen) and added 1/3 cup slivered almonds to it. And it was sooooooo yummy! You know what? I didn't even know you could eat Green Bean Casserole anytime of the year until my little sister Rachel told me she makes it all the time. So thanks Rach!

One year for Thanksgiving we had my good friend Sylvia and her hubby and 1 1/2 kids over for dinner. While on the phone issuing the invitation, she offered to bring something. I told her, "No, don't worry about it." Eventually she convinced me that she'd bring Green Bean Casserole. When I got off the phone with her I told Danny that she was bringing Green Bean Casserole.

Danny: Um honey? I don't think she knows what that is.

Me: Actually I think she does.

Danny: That's just your family's tradition. It's not something everyone has for Thanksgiving.

Me: Oh really? Well, Sylvia's the one that offered to bring it. I didn't ask her. So it must be her family's tradition too.

Imagine Danny's surprise when he saw Thanksgiving commercials for it. I like to tease him about it sometimes. It keeps him humble, you know? That and the scrambled egg sneeze of '98. But that's a story for another time.

So, anyhow, to make a long boring post even longer, I have a request for y'all. What does your family do to Green Bean Casserole to make it even more yummy?

Don't tell me your blog is now an open forum for others' most embarrasing moments...

My sis is the one who makes it for our family Thanksgiving! She goes strictly by the back of the can though (busy business woman - only brings stuff that can be assembled in 5 min or less!)

Just have to brag...here in AZ we like to have Thanksgiving dinner at the PARK, so the kids can play in the SUNSHINE while we peruse the ads and devise our shopping strategies - it's been years since we've even had to wear sweaters for it. (of course, we're still running the airconditioner, waiting for the cheap season :) you should come visit this winter 'cuz it sounds like you're freezing already.

ha ha ha - that's so funny about Danny's lack of expertise in the green bean casserole category. Mr. Brilliant had to be less than knowledgeable in at least one area (said in a very loving way because Danny is seriously SO smart!). As for what I like to do to it - I add almost 2 times as many french fried onions. YUMMMMMMMMMMM!

Hey...don't give Dan a bad time about the green bean casserole. It's not his fault that his mother chose something different for a traditional Thanksgiving Vegetable dish - ask him about corn pudding. It is not as easy or full-proof as the bean casserole, but it's yummy, too.

I'm with your Dan, I didn't know what it was until I was an adult and didn't even try it until years later. I am still not sure how I feel about it. But judging by everyone elses reactions to it maybe I should have kept that to myself.

It's okay...Dan will feel much better if he recalls my Thanksgiving "turkey stuffing" blooper that still has Beau laughing from years ago...
