A twister.

I can handle bugs, no mountains, and even sub-zero winters (doesn't mean I like these things). I have even learned how to handle most stresses in my life like a sane rational person. But nothing gives me instant diarrhea like a Tornado Warning.

Being from Oklahoma, I have lived with these all my life. Knowing a few things helps a LOT...

1: 90% of the time they are just airing(?) on the side of caution and it won't come anywhere near you.

2: knowing what to do will help alleviate some of the stress...throw the kids into the bathtub and put a mattress over them. (it sounds WEIRD, but that is one of the safest places to be...) You can also crouch in a closet in the inner most part of the home with heavy blankets tossed on top...or employ my friend's method and hop into the car and drive in the opposite direction! (Probably not recommended by anyone BUT my friend!)...If you are ever driving on the road/freeway, get to the nearest overpass and climb up as high as you can until you're touching the bottom of the street above you. If there is no overpass, find the nearest ditch, preferrably under a bridge, and lay as flat as possible.

I'm sure you know all these things, but it doesn't hurt to have regular tornado drills with your kids (We had them all throughout elementary school) so that they get used to what is supposed to happen and alleviate some of their fears...Good luck with Tornado season!
