WFMW - Fleece Diaper Pockets

Update: Hole in the Earth has joined the world of WFMW! Go check out his tip today.

Monday I picked up a yard of fleece on sale at our local JoAnn’s. I sewed two fleece diaper pockets to use with my cloth diapers (prefolds and covers) and tried them out on my 18-month old. He loved them! Then I sewed about four more of the same size. Fleece naturally wicks away moisture. So when he wet in them, the fleece pulled the wet into the pocket where the prefold was and kept him feeling comfy and dry. And when he soiled his diaper it was so much easier to clean!

I have heard before the benefits of using fleece liners. But this idea from Karen’s Cloth Diapering Site is ingenious! When I tried laying just a fleece liner on the prefold it would often bunch up and shift around. Making a fleece diaper pocket is like a little pillowcase for your prefolds. Just make sure that the stretch of the fleece is from side to side to make stuffing the pocket very easy. And when it comes time to remove the prefold from the pocket and wash, it is so easy!

Fleece diaper pockets work for me!

Very good idea, especially for night time! I love pre-folded diapers, because they're so cheap and versatile!

Well, that's a nifty idea. I have tons of prefolds and prowraps - but I have been wanted a set of small Fuzzibunz for the next baby because we really like them for our last one - and Fuzzibunz are expensive - and the baby won't wear smalls for long - so I just might have to sew up a bunch of fleece pockets and try this one out. Since I have a pile of fleece in the fabric stash, it will just cost some time.

Great idea! I love my pocket diapers and I can't sew at all, but that is really good to know!! Thanks!

Amy-

They are SO easy. You just cut the fabric the right size and sew down the side and across the bottom. Turn it inside-out and voila! Fleece doesn't fray so you don't have to hem the top.

great idea! do you buy 100% cotton fleece or polyester fleece? i was going to make come doublers but i was unsure how well polyester would do adn that was all they had on sale at joanns.

Mamaescandon-

I use polyester fleece. I wash it on hot with a powdered detergent (to prevent pilling) and dry without fabric softener.

A good idea--too bad I don't have a kid in diapers.

What am I saying?? :)

But it is a good time to pick up the fleece with it all on sale.

I love fleece pockets! I wish my bumGenius had fleece inners. I'm a cloth diaper addict, totally obsessed. I'm sure my friends are sick of hearing about them, lol.
